Archbishop Alfred Adewale Martins visits prisoners on Boxing Day

About 2068 inmates in a prison of 800 persons capacity. 210 have been convicted. The remaining are awaiting trials for crimes that range from traffic offenses, inability to pay meager fines, no body to perfect their bail and felonies. The inmates or "teammates" as they preferred to be addressed made some presentations to the Archbishop: Drama, comedy, poem rendition and songs. They also gave him some internally made products like insecticides, Semolina and other products. The Archbisop pledged to carry out some renovation works which include tiling the floor of a section of the prison and also to provide Tyre for their Black Maria vehicle that conveys them to court. 24 of the inmates were confirmed and 1 received Holy communion.

‎He charged the Catholic Lawyers to work towards the release of prisoners especially during the year of mercy. Also, he encouraged Catholics family, parish, deanery and archdiocesan levels to work towards the release of prisoners during the year of mercy.
