Being Sent
By Religious

The call to a life of service is re-echoed by Christ in the gospel today after he finished washing the feet of his disciples to teach them as well as all of us that we must be willing to sacrifice for the other person. Service according to Christ involves listening to the master and viewing or understanding service as doing what we know, because service is the rent we pay for the privilege of living on this earth. We should not be like the traitor who lived and ate with Christ but still refused to allow Christ’s message to find a place in his heart; we must allow the body and blood of Christ which we partake in daily to transform us into the kind of servants which the Lord is inviting us to be. We are all Christ’s messengers by virtue of our baptism and as such should allow ourselves be useful in the preaching of the gospel as did St Paul in the first reading, who used his knowledge to help others come to Christ and gain eternal life.

Prayer: Instill in us O Lord the right attitude and disposition of a servant, so that we can truly serve you in our neighbours. Amen.
