Working for God
By Rev. Fr. Francis Babatunde

The readings of today bring to our awareness that it is possible to be ‘working for God’ but leaving out the God of the work, by thinking that our work suffices for doing the will of God in our daily lives. Jesus reminds us what counts - the Will of God. When we do the will of God, we also work for him. Two common examples: Martha was cooking for Jesus (working for God), and Mary was listening to Jesus (doing his will). Mary’s disposition was commended as the needful act (Luke 10:42). Saul was killing Christians in the name of working for God but he was not doing his will (Acts 9:1-5). Hence it is not enough to be engaged in the so called the works of God, ask yourself how does it correspond to the will of him who sent me?

Prayer: Lord, help us to do your will while working for you and at the end may we be commended as good and faithful servants worthy of enjoying your glory. Amen
