External Influence in Faith
By Rev. Fr. Vincent Chukwujekwu

The people we have close relations with in one way or another influence our lives. This can also be true about our life of faith and also belief in God, this influence can either be for the positive or negative. In today’s first reading the Israelites demanded for a king which was out of their influence with other nations. By this demand there was a rejection of God’s leadership, for their case they were influenced negatively by their neighbors. Whereas in the Gospel reading the Paralytic was helped by those around him to have an encounter with Jesus which turned out to be a life-transforming encounter, in his case it was a positive influence. As the popular saying goes, show me your friend and I would tell you who you are, so it is similar case with our life of faith, those we hang out with, in one way or another influence our relationship with God directly or indirectly and they can either bring us closer to God or take us farther away from him. So as Christians we are definitely called to know those to meet when we really want to improve our Christian faith.

Prayer; Help us O Lord, to realize that we are limited without you and grant us the grace to continually seek to draw ever closer to you. Amen.
