Lord of the Sabbath
By REV. FR. MATTHEW PLACIDE NOUGBODE

It is true that the Sabbath is meant to be a day of rest in following with the command of God who himself on the seventh day rested after creation. Today, Jesus shows himself as the Lord of the Sabbath and so the day is meaningful when done with the Lord at heart. I often hear people who say that there is no need of going to Church on Sundays, for them resting from work was enough observance; some others even see going to Church as work in itself. To people like this Jesus reminds them that he owns the Sabbath and that our observing of the Sabbath only makes meaning when given to him.

Prayer; Help me O Lord, to make a proper observance of the Sabbath and Holy days of Obligation in the way and manner that is pleasing to you. Amen.
