The keeping of Tradition
By REV. FR. MATTHEW PLACIDE NOUGBODE

Jesus is never against any good tradition. St. Paul firmly holds that we should hold firmly to the traditions handed down to us by Christ and the Apostles (2 Thess 2:15; 1 Cor 11:2). Jesus is rather against traditions and external pieties that do not have their inward corresponding realities, and as such fail to touch the heart of the commandments which is love for God and one’s neighbor. Do you focus more on the externals that it becomes so great a distraction and blindness to seeing the spirit and love that an action ought to transmit? If so, we need to be really saved from this mindset.

Prayer: Lord, in your mercy give us the grace to overcome every legalistic attitude and show of piety that does not yield any good spiritual fruit. Amen.
