Archbishop Alfred Adewale Martins

Most Rev. Dr. Alfred Adewale Martins, born on June 1, 1959 in Abeokuta, Ogun State, is the Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos. Ordained a priest in 1983, he served in pastoral ministry, education, and seminary formation before being appointed the first Bishop of Abeokuta in 1997 by Pope John Paul II.

After fourteen years of leading the Diocese of Abeokuta and contributing significantly to the growth of the Church in Nigeria, he was appointed the fourth Archbishop of Lagos by Pope Benedict XVI in 2012. Guided by his episcopal motto, “Called to Serve in Love,” Archbishop Martins continues to lead the Archdiocese in faith, pastoral care, and service to the Church and society.
