The event of the Transfiguration of our Lord Jesus Christ stands at the middle of his ministry.
The transfiguration answers the question of the identity of our Lord Jesus Christ. The event further confirms Peter’s confession at Caesarea Philippi “You are Christ the Son of the living God” (Matt. 16:16).
What could be the meaning of this luminous apparition? The vision of Daniel in the First Reading today (Daniel 7:9-10, 13-14) tells us among other things: “I saw: One like a Son of man coming on the clouds of heaven; and when he reached the Ancient One and was presented before him, the One like a Son of man received dominion, glory, and kingship….” The transfiguration reflects the divinity of Jesus the Son of God who manifests his glory to three of his disciples.
Today's celebration reminds us to always listen to Christ. How do we listen to Christ? We listen to him when we allow his words transform through obedience and right living.
Payer: Lord, help me and give me the grace to always listen to you. Amen
