Laws are often thought of in the negatives, especially as restrictions to our human freedom. Moses, in the First Reading, encourages us to think positive of the Law for he who keeps God’s statutes and ordinances has life, wisdom, understanding, and enjoys an extension of God’s identity and holiness in him.
Jesus is the fulfilment of the Law. He comes to perfect, complete and bring maturity to the Law and the Prophets. He comes to bring true freedom in the Law making us realize that our true freedom lies in adherence and acceptance of God’s commandment. Greatness in heaven consists in keeping the commandments here on earth and teaching others to do same.
Therefore, since the way we live our lives has a lasting impact on those we interact with, we have the responsibility of making forgiveness, charity, respect, love, and peace known through our way of life. By our life example, we make known God’s law of love. This is basic especially in this holy season of Lent.
Prayer: Lord, you have blessed me with your goodness and love. Help me to keep your law and make it known in love and kindness to others. Amen.
