As we come to the last Sunday before the holy season of Lent, the readings before us today draws our mind to the purpose of the forth coming season of Lent; to purify ourselves so that we can be like God in whose image and likeness we were created and whose children we are. In the first reading, God through Moses reminds Israel and whole of human race that we should strive for holiness as He is holy. St Paul takes this up in the second reading by reminding the people of Corinth that their body is God's Temple and as such must be kept holy since God is holy. In the gospel, Christ admonishes us all to be perfect as our heavenly father is perfect. This perfection and holiness can be attained not just by doing what the law requires but by living above the law and by being guided by the law of love. We are called not to rely on our whims and caprices to attain this perfection but we must turn to the Lord who is compassionate and gracious.
Lord, help us to be like you more and more everyday. Amen.
